A team of recent graduates took out the Best Social Impact award at Microsoft’s Design Expo with an augmented reality applicatio­n that digitises crime scenes and allows highlights and annotation­s to be added directly to noteworthy pieces of evidence. Reminiscen­t of the sci-fi film Minority Report, this new software gives legal representa­tives, jurors and judges the ability to walk through the original crime scene at any time, enlarging, rotating and listening to audio notes at points of interest.

Pokémon GO developer Niantic’s first AR game, Ingress, saw a 20 million download uptick following the successful use of the game’s core mechanic in the Pokémon Company AR sensation. Niantic has announced it’s rewriting the storyline and updating the client platform for the revamped Ingress Prime, which is set to launch in 2018. Niantic is optimistic that it’ll be able to juggle ongoing Pokémon GO committmen­ts, the new Ingress Prime and also launch the highly anticipate­d Harry Potter: Wizards Unite AR title.
