GREENIE – SAVE

- [ CARMEL SEALEY ]

THE PLANET A DIGITAL TREE HUG. Free | greenieapp.com/app

Unless you’ve been frozen in ice for the last 300,000 years (and if you have, then... welcome! And thank you for choosing as your one-stop shop for getting up to date on all Earth’s history), you would know about this little problem called Climate Change. Greenie – Save the Planet is on a mission to help you reduce your global footprint. As well as providing you with a constant stream of climate news and anything related (including the destruction of the planet by nuclear war and Trump), the app gives you lots of tips on how to be a more environmentally friendly human, such as getting a car with the auto-turnoff function and not leaving appliances plugged in if they’re not needed. Greenie also allows you to buy trees, bumper stickers, T-shirts, tote bags and hats, and there are lots of other ways you can contribute to reducing the effects of climate change, which will earn you badges. There is a definite activism feel to this app — partly because there’s an activism section of the app. The main background image is of a forest, which, in our view, is a bit too busy and gives the app an overall cheap feel reminiscent of old websites. The badges images, too, are very pixelated and pictures embedded in the news stories take a long time to load. Barring these niggling issues, however, it’s not that hard to navigate, and the tips and news sections are very valuable. TechLife
