IF YOU LOVE the portability of your smartphone camera but miss the flexibility of interchangeable lenses from a DSLR or mirrorless camera, the Olloclip ‘Connect’ system is a workable compromise, consisting of a set of lenses that you can clip over the top of your iPhone’s camera. The Filmer’s Kit comes with a fancy hard case that houses four lenses (super-wide, ultra-wide, telephoto and a combo fisheye/macro lens), two clips (one for the 7/8 and the other for the 7/8 Plus) and the Pivot grip that makes it more comfortable to shoot videos. The system is blissfully simple to use. The two-sided clip means you can quickly switch between different lenses by swapping the clip around, and it clicks securely into place. There’s a little image quality degradation mainly along the edges of wide-angle shots. It’s worth noting that the Portrait mode and 2x optical zoom on the 7 Plus and 8 Plus doesn’t work with the Olloclip attached, as it blocks the second rear camera that’s required to perform both of those functions. The Olloclip also blocks the flash, which limits its use for night-time photography, and only fits in Olloclip cases.
