THE SMOOTH Q joins a growing rank of handheld smartphone stabilisers that offer enhanced image and video stabilisation by way of built-in motorised axes. Think of it as a selfie stick on steroids. An integrated shutter button lets you snap photos and record videos without needing to touch your smartphone screen, while the motorised head lets you pan and tilt your smartphone using the four-way joystick. Plus, the active stabilisation keeps your smartphone super-steady for single shots, panoramas and video footage.

The Zhiyun doesn’t have quite the same upmarket build quality of the DJI gimbal, nor is it as good for stabilising motion or following a moving target with the object tracking feature, but it beats it many other ways.

The Smooth Q offers triple the run-time at up to 12 hours, supports full 360° panning motion, and has a universal quarter-inch threaded hole at the bottom for mounting it on a monopole or tripod. Plus, it offers the same functions through the app, such as panoromas, long exposures, motion time lapses and active tracking.
