DRIVERS’ LICENCES WILL BE ADDED TO GOVERNMENT’S BIOMETRIC DATABASE
EXPERTS WARN OF PRIVACY CONCERNS.
Drivers’ licences will soon be added to the existing Governmental database known as the “Interoperability Hub” — a biometric profile spanning Australia’s states and territories with the intention of countering terrorism. Experts are warning that adding drivers licence images will muddy the process as there is likely to be upwards of 50 matches to a single query, potentially resulting in innocent citizens getting repeatedly drawn into the process.
