A GREAT PHONE FOR SELFIES AT THIS PRICE.

WITH A PAIR of cameras good enough for a flagship, the Oppo A57 is a terrific budget handset for the budding photographer. Its 13MP rear snapper takes exceptional photos, but its front-facing 16MP camera is where the Oppo A57’s photo-taking prowess shines. Combined with Oppo’s Beautify 4.0 software, it’s possible to achieve incredibly flattering selfies. Oppo’s ColorOS 3.0 interface (based on the older Android 6.0) drives the phone, and while it’s quite clean, it’s fairly iPhone-like in appearance, which is likely to rub Android purists the wrong way, and there’s no app drawer. Regardless, its battery life is better than most phones in this price range, lasting around 10 hours. We also appreciate the inclusion of a microSD card slot for expanded storage. In typical Oppo fashion, it also boasts one of the fastest fingerprint scanners we’ve ever seen — seriously, this thing unlocks instantaneously. It’s also a decent little performer, with our benchmarks putting it in the same league as the terrific Moto G5s.
