FRUUMO

A NEW-TAB TOOL THAT DOES MORE THAN SHOW PRETTY PICTURES. New-tab browser plugins are exceedingly common, but Fruumo gives you something most of them lack — speed and utility. Although this plugin has been around for a while, a recent update has made it faster, and stuffed in a lot more features. Not only do you get to see a lovely new wallpaper every hour, you can search the web, access your recent downloads and Chrome apps, and find specific bookmarks all from a new tab. And that search is lightning quick. Like other new-tab plugins (Momentum, for example — see issue 49, page 35), Fruumo displays the local weather information, has a search bar and lists the most frequently opened sites, but adds to all that by giving you the option of disabling the wallpapers if they’re too distracting in the Focus Mode accessed via the plugin’s settings, or use custom wallpapers. You can also access tabs opened on other devices when you’re signed into Chrome with the same credentials on multiple devices. If you accidentally close tabs, the information is saved on Fruumo, so you can get to them whenever you need to.
