Rainbrow

- [ CARMEL SEALEY ]

THE IPHONE X EXCLUSIVE THAT’S ALL ABOUT BEING EXPRESSIVE. Free | nathangitter.com NO, THE TITLE above isn’t a typo. Rainbrow is a very straightforward game with only two things to keep in mind. First: ducks, clouds, cars and basketballs are all evil. Second: you need to practise your frowning. Not an angry person at heart? Well, you might find the game mechanics of this title a little challenging. Your little emoji friend must navigate the rainbow ladder, dodging obstacles, and collect stars. Sounds simple enough, yes. To go up, you raise your eyebrows in a shocked expression. To stay put, adopt a neutral expression. To go down, frown. We found that, in order for the iPhone X’s TrueDepth camera to adequately detect our frown, we had to scrunch up our face to the extent that our eyes were closed, however, making navigating the various obstacles a little challenging. (Although, we should note that the app has recently had an update allowing you to recalibrate your eyebrows...) Enemies slowly move from left to right on a conveyor, meaning you should really have all the time in the world to move from one rainbow rung to the next. However, ‘game mode’ kicks in and it soon becomes a frantic race to get to the collectible stars as quickly as possible, meaning you will often run face-first into an acorn or a ‘mostly sunny’ weather forecast. This game is all about beating your previous high score, so sit back and give those brows a workout!
