Dune!

- [ HARRY DOMANSKI ]

KEEP ROLLIN’ ROLLIN’ ROLLIN’ ROLLIN’... Free with IAP | voodoo.io/games IN DUNE! YOU’LL be using a single control to steer a single ball across many dunes. You tap and hold in order to accelerate and, once you’ve injected some oxygen between your ball and the back of a dune, you tap and hold again to bring your ball down to terra firma. Each time you manage to sail above the white line you’ll score a point, and you’ll get multipliers for smooth landings and extra points for sailing especially high. Keep the momentum up and you’ll prosper, but if you mis-time and hit the wrong side of a slope too hard, your ball stops and the game’s over. This makes for a similar formula to games such as Flappy Bird, with an overly simple premise that requires a real knack for timing to master. As you play, the amount of jumps, smooth landings and even game-overs will unlock different cosmetics for your ball, the backdrop and the slopes themselves. Typically, skins are pretty low on the list of incentives for this reviewer, but some of the combinations of the three adjustable aesthetics make for some seriously attractive casual gaming. Unfortunately, there’s a heinous amount of ads in the free version, popping up every second or third time you lose your momentum, providing further incentive to stay on a roll. But if you don’t mind paying the $3.69 to cruise ad-free, Dune! provides some mindless, pretty and addictive entertainment.
