Smarter Time

- [ PAUL TAYLOR ]

THE MOMENTS THAT MAKE UP A FULL DAY. Free | www.smartertime.com

If you often find yourself wishing you had more time or wonder where the hell your day goes, Smarter Time might work for you as it categorises every minute into chunks based on your calendar, location and sensors into one easy-to-read chart. The downside is, you’re also going to have to work for it. The app uses location services and monitors your app usage with your phone’s accelerometer and other sensors to record what you do. It purports to work in the background and automatically guess what you’re doing. Visit a café and it’ll be logged in your time line, or go for a walk or bike ride and that will be logged too (as long as you have your phone with you). Same goes for time spent on apps, browsing the web and so on. When it gets it right, it can be quite startling to see just how much time you spend — or waste — on certain activities. The downside is it’s prone to misreporting, and is a battery vampire. This writer apparently spent barely 22 hours asleep over seven days, and had over 100 hours uncategorised. You can go back and correct these anomalies, but it’s a little self-defeating to spend time counting how you spent your time.
