The iPhone X has had some deep influences on the Android phone market. The prevalence of physical features such as glass backs, bezel-free displays and camera notches is arguably a result of Apple’s latest flagship, whether or not it was the originator of them, so it stands to reason that some of its software mechanisms are making their way to the Android platform, too. With Gesture Control, you can place a control bar at the base of your phone’s display that allows you access to a variety of customisable functions via directional swiping, akin to the iPhone X. This works well on handsets that have lost their home and navigational buttons, whether by design or malfunction, as it allows for a surprising amount of control while sacrificing minimal screen real estate. You can customise the bar to a great degree — size, opacity, colour and sensitivity — but some advanced features are hidden behind a paywall, such as launching applications and ‘tapping’ gestures. For those handsets already sporting customisable soft buttons, this app won’t have much use, but if your buttons are broken or not to your liking, give these gestures a try.
