Sensibo Sky

A SENSIBLE SMART SENSOR FOR YOUR EXISTING AC.

- [ JOEL BURGESS ]

AS THE LIST of devices smart speakers can control around the house grows, so too does the list of existing household tech you wish you could control with your voice. Fortunately, the gap between what you can control with a remote and what you can control with an app isn’t as big as you might think. Sensibo Sky, the Wi-Fi connected hub that uses an infrared blaster to bring your air conditioner online, is keen to show that old tech actually can learn new tricks.

The smart remote takes a different tact from your average universal remote by limiting itself to servicing a particular air quality device and adding significantly greater functionality as a result. Because it only has one device to manage, the credit-card-sized Sensibo hub syncs perfectly with the unit it controls, allowing it to turn it on and off, tweak temperature-controlled fan speeds and run any other command your device’s existing remote does. While it’s great that the Android or iOS app lets you control your air con, the real benefits come from Sensibo connecting to your home Wi-Fi and pointing at your device, allowing you to control the unit from anywhere. The app also allows you to integrate with your Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa smart speaker for complete voice control and an integrated thermostat and humidity sensor means you can automate your air quality management based on the room’s climate. Considering how expensive a full hub can be, Sensibo is an excellent solution for bringing a specific device into your smart home system.
