EASILY ADD STORAGE SPACE TO YOUR SMARTPHONE.

- [ JOEL BURGESS ]

FOR ANYONE OTHER than Pixel or iPhone users, microSD cards are a pretty common feature in today’s smartphones. Some vendors have even made the microSD interface fast enough to enable the storage of system applications on the removable flash cards. So while storage space isn’t the universal smartphone problem it used to be, modern phones are able to take much higher-quality photos and videos that take up a lot more space.

It’s worth pointing out that you’ll probably want to use a fast microSD card for expanding your smartphone storage, since there’s a high likelihood your device will have a camera capable of taking large photo and video files that require fasterthan-average flash storage in order to function. Even if your camera can’t film in 4K just yet, you’ll be able to keep your microSD card and transfer it to your next phone, so the additional cost of futureproofing is well worth it in this instance.

If you do happen to be one of the many who use a phone without an expandable memory slot, don’t despair: there’s a number of dual-sided USB drives that’ll plug directly into your device if you want to carry large media files or games that don’t fit on your smartphone, so you can use them on the go. If that isn’t enough, then you’ve also got the option for wireless HDDs and portable SSDs to really boost the size of your smartphone capacity to unprecedented levels.
