WE’RE NOT A fan of ‘idle clickers’. After just a few minutes, we were wondering whether we had missed something. No. Turns out that this is a genre and it’s actually very popular.

It’s a beautiful looking game, though a bit cluttered. On our small iPhone SE, half of the screen is taken up by the menu/stats section, where you periodically smash the Level Up button to make your fairies more powerful. Your character actually doesn’t do anything, just hold a staff to presumably ‘light a way’. The fairies and woodland followers you pick up along the way actually do all the work.

By either shining fairy rays on your fluoro enemies or shooting cute projectiles from your followers, you will slowly whittle down the health bars of whatever is in your path and gain stardust which helps you level up, which in turn helps you upgrade your fairies, staff and everything else. However, levelling up is a stats game. You don’t feel more powerful — you’re still just hammering the same part of the screen with your finger of choice. The only thing that really changes is the number of fairies and followers you have, and the colour of the background.

Most reviews online for this game are very positive, so if you’re into this kind of time-filler game, go right ahead. Unfortunately, while it’s sickeningly sweet, pretty and well crafted, it’s just not for us.
