WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR IN A 2-IN-1

RUN THROUGH THIS CHECKLIST IF YOU’RE EVER IN THE MARKET FOR A 2-IN-1 TO AVOID OVERLOOKING ANYTHING.

-

FORM FACTOR

While detachables are often lighter and work much better as a tablet, they’re also often smaller and more expensive than convertible devices. It is important to be clear as to whether you want to use this device only occasionally as a tablet or if you think you’ll use them equally.

DISPLAY QUALITY

While having a vibrant 4K screen on your 2-in-1 device is undoubtedly desirable, at the 13-inch size bracket, the increased pixel density isn’t that obvious and there are some pretty considerable battery implications, that come with the higher screen specification. You’ll want to consider your needs and bank account carefully to justify a 4K display.

EXTRAS

With detachables, it’s worth considering if any keyboard or pen accessories are included in the deal, as they can add an extra few hundred dollars to the equation.

PERFORMANCE

It can be intimidating trying to figure out what CPU you’ll need. If you don’t already know, then you can probably get away with a less powerful unit, but it is an important consideration for the longevity of the device and how useful it’ll be in a few years.

GPU

Some of the most expensive devices now come with dedicated GPUs making it easy to do proper PC gaming on the go, but you’ll want to be sure you need a 2-in-1 if you’re considering this category, because you pay a serious premium for the luxury.

PORTS

While we haven’t covered ports here much, it’s important to consider the devices you’ll use it with and check if the device you want can connect directly to them. Additional dongles will add up to the cost of the device and can be a nuisance to carry around, if you don’t lose them first.

WHILE DETACHABLES ARE OFTEN LIGHTER AND WORK MUCH BETTER AS A TABLET, THEY’RE ALSO OFTEN SMALLER AND MORE EXPENSIVE THAN CONVERTIBLE DEVICES
