NAVIGATE THE NEW-LOOK APP STORE

-

TODAY VIEW 01 The App Store’s new Today view is — Surprise! — updated daily with a mix of Apple picks, interviews, tips and themed round-ups — just tap one to read it. Scroll down to go back through the last seven days of updates. NEW SECTIONS 02 Games and apps now reside in their own separate tabs, allowing you to focus on one at the expense of the other — maybe games are just not your thing. Their pages sport a new look, too, with new sections to explore. ACCESS APP DETAILS 03 Tap an app to view its details and you’ll see that listings also benefit from the new design. Everything is larger and cleaner. Scroll down to access reviews — just above these, tap the developers’ name to access all their apps.

INFORMATION AREA 04 Scroll down to the Information section to see if the app is compatible with the device you’re using — tap the downwards-pointing arrow for full system requirements. The Supports area reveals extra info, like Family Sharing support. IMPROVED SEARCH 05 Tap Search to search by title and developer name (see Step 6). On iPad, use the Filters dropdown menu to refine the results by platform, price, category or ages, or change sort order (relevance, popularity, ratings or release date). DEVELOPER SEARCH 06 New in iOS 11 is the ability to for a specific developer. The results will list all their available iOS apps, along with a link to their developer listings page, where you can also see their apps for other Apple devices such as Apple TV. ACCOUNT FEATURES 07 Tap the headshot icon in the top‑right corner of most pages to access account information. You can update account details, redeem gift codes and cards, and view and manage past app purchases across all your devices. MANAGE SUBS 08 Tap your account name and enter your password, then scroll down and tap Subscriptions to manage both Apple and third-party subscriptions made through the App Store. You can amend or cancel subscriptions from here. INCOMPATIBLE APPS 09 As you may have discovered, 32‑bit apps on your iOS device no longer work in iOS 11. In the App Store, incompatible apps are marked as such — look for the greyed-out download icon and an explanatory banner. NEW SETTINGS 10 In ‘Settings > iTunes & App Store’, you’ll find three very useful new features. You can tap Video Autoplay to set promo videos on the store either not to autoplay or to work only if you connect over Wi-Fi, conserving your mobile data allowance. TURN OFF FEEDBACK 11 Turn off ‘In-App Ratings & Reviews’ to prevent prompts for feedback. This suppresses them in all apps that have been updated or added to the store since Apple began requiring developers to use its official channel for feedback requests. OFFLOAD UNUSED APPS 12 Turn this on and any apps deemed ‘unused’ will be automatically removed if space is needed for something else, but their settings and data will be preserved. The app remains on your Home screen but greyed out; tap it to reinstall it.
