You’d have heard of Bill Nye (The Science Guy), right? Yeah, well, the nicely-dressed boffin and his Planetary Society (think of the Planeteers but real) are trying to raise awareness about killer asteroids. No, that’s not some B-grade horror flick. By donating to the cause, you’ll be helping raise money to create an online course to teach people more about asteroids. Unless you’re living with your head in the sand, you’d know that a giant asteroid wiped out the dinosaurs about 65 million years ago, allowing the planet’s second best species — humans — to populate the planet (the first best is, of course, felines). So what are you supposed to do as a Planetary Defender (no, seriously, that’s what you’re called if you help fund the project). Well, basically just donate, then start a conversation and raise awareness. The Society isn’t planning on building an asteroid-destruction laser any time soon, but the funds generated from this campaign will reportedly “help pay for important planetary defense initiatives”, whatever they might be.
