BACKGROUND APP REFRESH CONTROLS

Go to ‘Settings > General > Background App Refresh’. This controls which apps can pull data from the internet even when the app isn’t visible. You can turn it all off completely with the option at the top, or just stop certain apps. You can do this to curb the energy use of apps as an alternative to uninstalling them, though in some cases, their energy use will be due to GPS — see the next page to solve that.
