SURVEILLANCE ON A BUDGET.
AVAILABLE FOR UNDER $50, the TP-Link NC210 is a simple yet effective security or monitoring setup. The camera features a typical 1280 x 720 resolution and 113 dregrees FOV from the 1/4-inch CMOS sensor. It does have some limitations however, such as a 20fps frame rate and no IR illumination for night use. And while the camera happily captures audio, it doesn’t have a speaker to allow two-way communications. The camera also ditches the wired LAN port, relying entirely on 802.11n Wi-Fi.
The image quality is excellent considering the low cost, but of course it struggles in low light. When buying the NC210, don’t be misled into thinking the similarly priced NC220 is better — it includes night vision, but has a woeful 640 x 480 resolution.
The TP-Link tpCamera app is quite good, and allows remote monitoring and control of the camera. It can also be set to automatically send alerts if motion or sound is detected, though there is no SD card option to record footage locally.
