JAPAN EMPLOYS AI ROBOTS TO TEACH STUDENTS ENGLISH
EDUCATION MINISTRY COMMITS US$227,000 TO NEW LANGUAGE SOFTWARE.
500 classrooms across Japan are set to receive new AI robots following a 250 million Yen investment by the education ministry to improve students’ written and oral English language skills. The robots are expected to be able to check the students’ pronunciation, a task that teachers find difficult. Local schools have been struggling to find proficient English teachers and generally can’t afford more expensive language assistants. The AI robots are expected to be teaching students as young as 10 years old.
