TOP OF THE AFFORDABLE RANGE.
WHILE THERE ARE plenty of routers that are more budget friendly than the $140 Asus DSL-AC52U, there aren’t many with a better set of features. The unit is a modem router, and can handle connecting to ADSL or VDSL, plus has a WAN port, so covers all the NBN options. Four Gigabit LAN ports make connecting wired devices easy, and for wireless connections, it has AC750 spec Wi-Fi. Combined with the four large external antennas, that’s enough for long range HD video streaming. In testing the AC52U had the highest throughput at longer ranges, and has handy extras such as a WPS and Wi-Fi on/off button.
The Asus router also has extras such as USB port that can handle a 3G/4G modem, run as a print server or be used to connect storage (such as USB drive or external HDD) to your network. The router interface and OS is also top notch, with features such as a traffic analyser, VPN, parental controls and guest network.
