CAN AN OLDER ROUTER STILL COMPETE?

LAUNCHED A FEW years back now, the Netgear D6200 is still widely available - even from big name retailers such as The Good Guys. What makes it so compelling is that despite the high initial price, it can be now picked up for as little as $85. The D6200 is no slouch when it comes to features either, and offers AC1200 spec Wi-Fi. About the only downside is that the built in modem is ADSL only – no VDSL support. On the plus side, it has a WAN connection on the back for use with FTTP NBN or other modems. The D6200 also has four Gigabit LAN ports, and a USB 2.0 port that can be used to add storage, or run a print server.

The D6200 uses internal antennas, but while the tall design won’t blend in super easily, it does still give above average range and connection speeds. On the 5GHz network, we had no problem streaming HD media across the house, and there were no noticeable dead spots.
