13yo invents AI algorithm for cancer treatment
MACHINE LEARNING PANCREAS TRACKER WINS YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD
Rishab Jain, a 13-year-old from Oregon has won the annual Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge in the US for a machine learning algorithm that tracks pancreatic cancer to deliver better treatment. The pancreas is a particularly difficult to locate as it is often obscured by other organs, but the young teen (with the help of a mentor) was able to produce a software that improves pancreas identification in an MRI allowing for more precise radiotherapy treatment.
