BEST MID-RANGE TV $1,500 - $2,500 PANASONIC TH-55FZ950U 55” OLED TV

-

A top-class, current-generation, 55-inch OLED TV for under $2,500? It doesn’t feel right saying that this is a mid-range TV seeing as it offers the best picture on show, but this is the late-2018 TV market.

It doesn’t quite offer the slick usability of LG’s operating system or Dolby Vision compatibility, but it’s easy enough to access the important apps. With Amazon now offering attractive content and HDR10+ compatibility, Panasonic’s HDR10+ support is not just vapourware, and watching The Grand Tour’s cinematography and people wondering through a dark church with torches in Jack Ryan is enough to make you go, “Wow!”

Another thing we liked is Panasonic’s antireflective filter. It’s still glossy and won’t fend off all reflections in a bright Australian home but compared to some mirror-like TVs on the market, it’s certainly better.

There are brighter screens available, but few offer the combination of colour accuracy and detail in dark areas that this does. Panasonic is finally back at the front of the pack in TV world.
