HUAWEI’S EVOLUTION FROM hawker of cheap and cheerful handsets to industryleading innovator has been fascinating to witness. Having already proven it can go toe to toe with the big guns, the Mate 20 Pro demonstrates that Huawei can not only mimic the design and functionality of leading smartphones, but eclipse them, too.

The Mate 20 Pro is a beautiful phone, boasting a 6.4-inch OLED display that blends seamlessly into the all-glass enclosure. The curved display and minimal bezel has enabled the Chinese brand to do what Samsung couldn’t – fit the screen size of the Galaxy Note 9 into the body of the Galaxy S9+.

If that’s not enough, Huawei has also crammed in a 4,200mAh battery without blowing the carry weight beyond 200g. This beefy battery gives the Mate 20 Pro the longest run-time; from the time you take it off charge in the morning, you won’t have to charge it again until you get home the following day.

The battery is so good that Huawei saw fit to include the industry’s first reverse wireless charging feature. This lets other handsets that support wireless charging ‘vampire’ battery charge off the Mate 20 Pro. Thankfully, it isn’t enabled by default, but it really is as simple as putting it back to back with another smartphone to initiate charging.

Another industry-first comes by way of the in-screen fingerprint reader, but it’s not as fast
