AI PAINTING SELLS FOR US$432,500 UNDERLYING AI ALGORITHM TAKEN FORM OPEN SOURCE LIBRARY.

The world’s first AI painting to go under the hammer at a Christie’s auction house sold with a bang raking in a whopping US$432,500, some 40 or so times more than the highest expectatio­ns. In the days since the story has developed further with it coming out that Obvious (the company taking home the cheque) borrowed heavily from code that was freely available on the code-sharing portal Git-Hub.

Global management consultanc­y firm McKinsey and Company have released a report that estimates that AI will contribute between US$3.5 trillion and US$5.8 trillion dollars to the global economy annually, at some point. While the McKinsey Global Institute report didn’t develop a timeline for AI uptake, it did predict a 12% increase in annual revenues from AI’s influence on sales growth across 19 industries in over 400 use cases.

The moral dilemma of who to save in a crash has been a longstandi­ng philosophi­cal experiment, but a new study has used this dilemma to survey global preference­s in order to train self driving cars. The study found that in a crash situation where only one party could live, people felt that the humans take precedence over animals, a the more numerous group should be saved and youthful should be spared over the elderly.
