THUS, THIS ISSUE’S FOCUS ON IN-CAR TECHNOLOGY, FROM GPS DEVICES TO CUT DOWN ON WRONG TURNS, TO DASHCAMS AND EVEN ENTIRE OPERATING SYSTEMS FOR YOUR CAR.

I’M ONE OF those travellers that really loves getting lost.

I mean, often I like it more after the fact, but there’s an undeniable attraction - for me at least - to realising you’ve somehow wandered off the edge of your mental map and into Here be Dragons territory. In fact, just aimlessly wandering around is a great way to get a real sense of wherever you’re staying.

I last did this in, of all places, Marrakech, which is a wonderful and remarkably challenging place to realise you’re lost. And it was great, because it really forced me to engage with the locals and learn where I was, and how to get back to where I was going.

Of course, not everyone likes to travel like that, and I am after all lucky - I tend to travel solo, so if I’m lost, I’m the only person out of place. If, like many people, you’re taking your family on a holiday this year, probably driving to some distant and/or exotic location (or, I don’t know, Port MacQuarrie, which was a common destination in my childhood), getting lost may not be so quite a quaint pleasure. Getting there may be half the fun, but you do want to get there, and you want to get there smartly. Thus, this issue’s focus on in-car technology, from GPS devices to cut down on wrong turns, to dashcams and even entire operating systems for your car.

Huh. Siri, show me the way to Narooma...
