Data-distilled whisky pours tech in your tumbler

TRADITION PLUS TECH EQUALS PERFECT PEAT.

WE ARE QUITE a few of us fans of the odd drop of whisky in the TechLife office, so when William Grant & Sons announced a new data-driven approach to distillation, we sat up and took notice.

“Ailsa Bay’s distillery is one of the most advanced in the world. It’s a playground for our inquisitive team of scientists, engineers and whisky makers that can question the status quo and push boundaries,” said William Grant & Sons’ Malt Master, Brian Kinsman. The distillery has just advanced to being able to measure not just phenol parts per million – a longtime indicator of quality – but can now also measure sweetness, via ‘sweet parts per million. And the result, we are happy to say, is rather more than drinkable. “Ailsa Bay speaks to curious and progressive whisky enthusiasts, particularly those in science, technology, engineering and mathematics who appreciate the way technology can challenge, augment and elevate traditional experiences,” Kinsman added.

The new Ailsa Bay is available at Vintage Cellars, in-store and online.
