AI TACKLES FOOD WASTAGE. $NA | www.impactvi.com A new San Francisco startup is using spectrosco­py and AI to deliver deeper insights on the quality of fresh produce. Using electromag­netic radiation (think x-rays) the ImpactVisi­on software scans the shape, density and material of various fruits and vegetables. The AI software can then compare scans to data sets to estimate shelf life or detect imperfecti­ons. This system could help reduce global food wastage, which is currently estimated to be about a third of all produced food.
