POLICE IN THE UK TESTING AI TO PREVENT CRIME

AI ARE THE ORACLES IN THIS MINORITY REPORT-LIKE SOFTWARE. The New Scientist reports that the UK police force are intending to begin using AI to attempt to identify people who are likely to commit serious violent crime and intervene before it occurs. The system pools various records from a number of law enforcement agencies in the UK and uses metrics including the number of crimes an individual, or their friend group, have committed, to predict the likelihood of future crime. The exact nature of the intervention is still being determined but will likely include counselling.
