SKYLANDERS, ORIGINALLY A collectable heavy adventure spawned out of the Spyro The Dragon universe, has evolved into a host of games across three generations of consoles and a popular, multi season Netflix series. It has picked up a lot of fans along the way, many of whom have been crying out for mobile experience to fill in the gap until the next full release. Ring of Heroes is essentially a combination of the “summon a hero” RPG experience that is common on mobile, infused with the world and story of the Skylanders.

On the surface, there is a lot going on here. Aside from the story mode (which is a unique story thread that hasn’t been in any other games or series) there are PVP battles, Dungeon exploring, and more. Players build “teams” that are made up of classic Skylander characters and are empowered by their unique skills and synergies. Unfortunately, there is a lot of luck and repetitive work required to get the “better”, well known characters which makes a lot of the mid-to-higher level battles dependant on in-app purchases in order to be competitive.

That said, the art and graphics are spot on, and battles are fun and easy to grasp. Skylander fans will have a ball building their fantasy teams and playing through the story mode, which is engaging and canon within the universe that has been built through the TV series.
