If you’ve heard of Fortnite, then you’re already halfway there when it comes to Epic. After the success of the highly popular free-to-play battle royale game, Epic branched out and turned its launcher into an online game shop much like Steam. As a part of that push, Epic has been offering free games every week, likely in a bid to get more people onto the platform. It also has a list of free-to-play titles like Dauntless, Magic: The Gathering Arena, and of course Fortnite that you can access. This doesn’t cost you a cent and it’s worth checking in every week to see what you can get for nothing.

The games are only available for download for a limited time so it’s best to get on it quick. Many are smaller efforts that would otherwise slip under the radar, like Figment or Minit, but there have been some seriously heavy hitting indies like Celeste, Superhot, and Fez in the past. AAA games are also featured, though they do tend to be older ones. In the past couple of months we’ve seen Ubisoft titles Watch Dogs and

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate free on the service, and before that games like Darksiders and Alan Wake. It’s definitely a mixed bag but it’s free, and there’s a surprising amount of gold in there when all things are considered.
