HOW TO Install and find your new fonts

-

1

INSTALL ANYFONT AnyFont has three options: Install Own Fonts, Bundled Fonts, and Already Installed Fonts. The bundled fonts are unlockable via a small purchase. We’ll use those here, but see bit.ly/2HZ5BFq for how to add absolutely any font.

2

FIND YOUR FONTS The app will show you a long list of fonts, each of which has a little preview so you can get a peek at roughly what it looks like. Tap on one of the fonts to find out about it, to see a better preview of how it looks, or install it.

3

OPEN THE FONT AnyFont doesn’t actually go straight to the preview as you’d expect; you’ll need to tap Preview at the top right to see the large preview. The icon shows you what kind of font you’re dealing with: here, it’s a TTF font file.

4

PREVIEW IT FIRST It’s wise to preview a font before going through the steps of installing it: some are absolutely hopeless to read clearly at smaller sizes, and others don’t work brilliantly in larger sizes. Tap on Close when you’re finished previewing.

5

INSTALL THE FONT Tap on the font icon to install it – you will see this rather opaque message. Adding fonts to your iPad means changing some system settings, and for that you need to give the app permission.

Tap Allow.

6

DOWNLOAD THE FILE AnyFont will now download a small profile file, which will enable it to change your iPad’s settings. This is totally safe, and doesn’t create any security issues. Tap on Close when it’s done and then go to the Settings app.

7

GIVE THE FONT PERMISSION In your device’s Settings app, scroll down to General, then scroll down through that panel until you see Profiles: it’s near the bottom of the page. Tap on the Profiles option to open it once you’ve found it.

8

PICK YOUR PROFILE AnyFont isn’t the only app that puts profiles into Settings. For example, if you sign up for Apple’s iOS public beta programme to preview new software, you’ll have a profile that enables your iPad to install the betas.

9

INSTALL THE PROFILE Tap on the font’s profile – the one ending “.ttf” – and then on the blue Install link. Installation is pretty much instant. You can remove it at any time by coming back to this screen and tapping Remove Downloaded Profile.

10

NEARLY THERE! Once you’ve responded to the questions, tap Next, and the installation process will be complete. Thankfully you can install multiple fonts on your device from one profile: you don’t need to do this for each individual font.

11

OPEN YOUR APP If your word processing app is open, close it fully by double–pressing the Home button, or swiping up from the bottom and holding on a new iPad Pro. Swipe the app up off the screen. Reopen it and open up its font menu.

12

ENJOY THE RESULTS As soon as you select your new font, Pages (or any other app that uses fonts) will apply it to the selected text – so here you can see our headline text is now perfectly rendered in Alfa Slab One, the font we just added!
