SAFARI KEEPS CRASHING
I UPDATED MY MAC TO BIG SUR WITH THE BETA RELEASE AND NOW SAFARI KEEPS CRASHING AS SOON AS I OPEN IT. IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO TO STOP THIS? We believe this is happening due to a bug in the macOS installer that leaves old Safari frameworks in the system folder. This seems to conflict when you have your “Start Page” selected for new Safari windows and tabs. Rather than deleting the old frameworks, there is a simple workaround that we outline below. 1
OPEN SPOTLIGHT Press Cmd-Space Bar to open a new Spotlight search. Enter the URL of a website into the search field so Spotlight launches Safari and goes to the site automatically. 2
OPEN PREFERENCES Step 1 should ensure that Safari launches without crashing. In Safari, go to Safari > Preferences > General and set new windows and new tabs to open with “Homepage.” 3
SET HOMEPAGE
In the “Homepage” field, enter the URL of the page you want to open with Safari, then close the Preferences. You should now be able to launch Safari as usual.
