PLAY IT SAFE
MY MAC SOMETIMES STALLS DURING STARTUP. I SUSPECT ONE OF MY APPS MAY BE THE CAUSE. HOW CAN
I BE SURE? Boot up your Mac in Safe Mode by restarting and then holding the Shift key. Keep it held until the login window appears, then release Shift and log in as normal. Safe Mode is a stripped-down version of macOS that makes it easy to troubleshoot. It also performs certain checks and prevents some software from automatically loading. When in Safe Mode, do the following…
1
PRUNE STARTUP ITEMS
Go to System Prefs > Users & Groups, select your user account in the sidebar, and click on “Login Items.” Highlight anything you don’t want to launch at startup. Click “-.”
2
DELETE APPS
Navigate to your Applications folder and drag any suspectlooking apps (that wouldn’t have loaded automatically in Safe Mode) to the Bin, then restart your Mac.
3
GET AN UNINSTALLER Consider downloading an app such as Uninstaller Master (free, App Store) that can show you which apps are running and uninstall them along with all associated files.
