AI ethics conference suspends Google sponsorship
Decision follows the firing of both co-leads on AI ethics.
In February Google fired Ethical AI lead Margaret Mitchell for code of conduct violations just a day after restructuring the whole ethical AI team. The ethics team were unaware of the shift until Marian Croak was announced to the press as the new head of expertise in responsible AI in the Google Research division. All of these actions have contributed to the ACM Conference for Fairness, Accountability, and Transparency’s decision to suspend sponsorship donations from Google in March.
