HOW TO Locate and organise files

-

1

BROWSE TO IMAGES At the left of Photo Studio 7’s Manage workspace is the Folders pane. Toggle open the Local label to browse to folders full of photos located on your Mac. Click on a thumbnail in the File List pane to target it.

2

RATE IMAGES Go to the top of the Organize pane on the right. Here you can click to assign a color label (such as green to keep a good shot or red to reject a bad one). You can also numerically rate shots in order of preference.

3

BIGGER PICTURE To get a better look at a shot, click the View icon (top-right). This combines a filmstrip view with a bigger picture display. Shift-click on the selected image to add ratings or color labels from the pop-up menu.

4

CREATE CATEGORIES Go back to the Manage workspace and toggle open Categories. Click the “+” icon and create a custom category, such as Portraits. Select a category’s gray box to assign it to a shot. A green tag will appear on the thumbnail.

5

ADD KEYWORDS Toggle open the Keyword Sets panel. Click the gear-shaped icon and choose a set, such as People. Click any appropriate keywords, such as Friend and/or Woman, to assign those keywords to the selected images.

6

BROWSE REMOVABLE DRIVES Click on the Removable label in the Folders pane (topleft) to browse photos on removable drives. Here, we’ve added color labels to shots, and added photos to our Portrait category.

7

LOCATE IMAGES After adding keywords, labels, ratings, and categories to photos in multiple locations, you can find files fast. Here, we’ve clicked on our custom Portraits category to display all the shots we added to that category.

8

COMBINE SEARCHES You can search for photos using multiple criteria. For example, hold down the Cmd key and select to find any shots that have a green label, a rating of 4 or 5, and belong to the Portraits category.

 ?? ?? GENIUS TIP
If you’ve rated a file or added it to a category then its thumbnail will appear even if the removable drive is not connected. However, to edit the image then you’ll need to plug the drive in.
