Deepfake voice app helps robbers steal US$35 million

Give me all your money please. A UAE bank manager was tricked by criminals using AI voice cloning software to transfer US$35 million into their bank account in early 2020. The robbers were able to convince the manager that they needed them to transfer the money to complete a merger and since the manager had worked with the supposed executive before, they recognised the voice and authorised the transfer. UAE investigators have asked for US cooperation in tracing US$400,000 of still unaccounted for funds.
