A new and improved Photos experience

-

The Photos app on the Apple Watch has always been there as a kind of novelty feature that allows you to quickly view thumbnail sized images when out and about. It does seem, however, that Apple is now aiming to enhance the experience by adding features that have been present on the iPhone for some time.

Specific sections

You can now view memories, which will be presented every day, your favourite images and featured photos. These have all been broken into sections. They are indicated by large thumbnails on the main screen, that make recognising them very simple.

Highlights are included

Despite the small screen, some images are displayed in larger thumbnails as highlights. This actually works very well and lends itself to making the Apple Watch Photos experience feel much more consistent with the iPhone offering.

Smooth zooming

Any photo can be zoomed into using the digital crown and you can then drag it around via the touch screen. The entire process feels very smooth and there is practically no juddering at all as you navigate around.

Tap and share

Any photo can be tapped to bring it up full screen. You can then turn it into a new watch face, share it with others using the small icon or simply enjoy viewing it, which is what photos should be about.
