AI software finds meteorite with drone

Researchers from Curtin University have discovered a meteorite smaller than an egg using AI software and a drone. The extra terrestrial object was identified using the Desert Fireball Network, which allowed researchers to determine its probable location in Western Australia. A drone then surveyed the 5.1km2 search area and fed images through an AI algorithm trained on other discovered meteorites. The software identified a shortlist that researchers used to speed up the eventual discovery of the 70g space rock.
