HOW TO Link your tree to FamilySearch

1 FIRST STEPS

Select FamilySearch from the

Edit menu, enter your FamilySearch credentials and click Login. A series of messages reveals how MacFamilyTree scours FamilySearch for matches to people, records, and photos.

2 REVIEW RESULTS

The status messages will change color as the search progresses: cyan for ongoing searches, turning to grey if nothing is found, or yellow and green if there are items to review. Click AutoMatched Persons to begin.

3 REVIEW MATCHES

Auto-matched persons are linked to individuals on FamilySearch who match your ancestor’s details. You’ll see a list of everyone matched – click Review AutoMatch and switch to the Sync tab to confirm the match.

4 COMPARE MATCH

The annotated screenshot (left) reveals what’s shown when comparing people in your tree with individuals on FamilySearch. If you’re convinced it’s a match, return to the Overview tab and click “Person has been Auto-Matched”.

5 REVIEW OTHER MATCHES

If you’re not convinced, use the Matches tab to see if other names appear. Click Show Context to reveal a potential match’s tree, which may reveal more clues.

6 ADD FACTS

Once you’ve finished matching, return to the main FamilySearch screen and if Found Further Information is flagged, click this to see what additional info exists. Click Show Further Information beneath a person.

7 ADD FACTS

If there are any new facts listed under “Person on FamilySearch”, and you’re confident they’re correct, click the arrow button to download them to your tree, either as a new event or to replace an existing one.

8 EXPAND YOUR TREE

Beneath the facts section will be the names of immediate relatives linked to your local person and the FamilySearch entry. You can also confirm existing matches and download new relatives.

9 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Explore the “Record Matches found” and “Person Pictures found” sections to see what other info may exist: review the matches using the controls and download photos to your Mac.
