Crypto transaction tracker brings down child paedophelia ring
The South African crypto startup Chanalysis, who worked out methods for extracting transactional information from the publicly available Blockchain, has been instrumental in bringing down a global network of paedophiles. According to a soon-to-be-released book by Wired reporter Andy Greenberg, Chanalysis was able to track Bitcoin transactions on the child sexual abuse website Welcome to Video that led to the identification of not just the site’s Korean orchestrator, but also the global network of site admins and consumers, which included a Homeland Security Officer and a high school assistant principal in the US.
