CYBERDUCK

From cyberduck.io Available on Mac Cyberduck began as an FTP app but it’s more than that; it’s a cloud browser with support not just for FTP and SFTP but WebDAV, Amazon S3, OpenStack Swift, Backblaze B2, Microsoft Azure and OneDrive, Dropbox, and Google Drive. It’s great for remote file management.

BBEDIT

From barebones.com Available on Mac Although BBEdit is a paid product, its free mode isn’t just a demo; it’s effectively TextWrangler, a code and text editor with multiple undo, multiple clipboards and tons of customisation. Its multi-file search-and-replace features are very good and it’s fast.

TRANSPORTER

From apple.com Available on Mac Apple’s Transporter used to be a command-line tool for uploading content to Apple, and now it’s an app. It’s a drag-anddrop app that will upload and validate files and submit them to the App Store, Apple Music, Apple TV app, Apple Books, or the iTunes Store.

XCODE

From apple.com Available on Mac Xcode is famously powerful and difficult to learn: unfortunately, complex coding is, well, complex. Apple’s integrated development environment makes Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Apple TV apps and comes with extensive support and documentation.

SWIFT PLAYGROUNDS

From apple.com Available on Mac, iPad Apple’s coding academy for kids is pretty good for grownups too. If you’re new to coding it’s a helpful environment that teaches you the basics. While it’s no Xcode, it’s no toy either, and with Swift Playgrounds you can build apps and submit them to the App Store.

APPIUM STUDIO

From appium.experitest.com Available on Mac Appium is a popular framework for testing mobile, web, and hybrid apps. Appium Studio on the Mac enables you to test your apps both via emulation and with physical devices connected via USB and there’s also a large and busy community around it.
