GEDCOM and Places

-

THE STANDARD INFLUENCES HOW MFT HANDLES PLACES

GEDCOM provides three fields for storing place data: Place_Name, Place_Latitude, and Place_Longitude. The key field is Place_Name, which stores place data using the following jurisdictional format: place (village, town, or city), county, state, and country. The Place_Latitude and Place_Longitude fields store the geographical coordinates, for placing on a map. Street addresses aren’t recorded as individual Places; they’re added to the Address field of a specific Event with no geocodes pinpointing their exact location, hence our workaround.
