BEST EXTENSION FOR... Blocking trackers in emails

-

Trocker

Chromium www.snipca.com/41171 Firefox www.snipca.com/41172 Many companies embed trackers in the emails they send you, so they can not only tell that you’ve opened their messages, but also when and where you did so. Trocker – which is short for ‘tracker blocker’ – puts a stop to this privacy invasion by preventing the invisible tracking pixels in emails from loading, while still allowing normal images and graphics to display. This stops the sender knowing that you’ve read their message and targeting you with follow-ups. Trocker also removes the tracking code from links in emails, so you can visit the relevant web pages without revealing that you’ve clicked them. The extension works in Gmail, Outlook and Yahoo Mail and is only activated when it detects trackers, so it’s not constantly running in the background. It keeps track of how many trackers it’s blocked and shows you the hidden elements in emails by marking them with a ‘T’ (see screenshot).

If you don’t like that, try…

PixelBlock Chromium www.snipca.com/41173 PixelBlock displays a red-eye icon when it detects and blocks a tracking attempt in an email you receive. However, it hasn’t been updated for three years and only works with Gmail, so isn’t as effective as Trocker.
