Why does everyone put prices up at this time of year, then slash them on Boxing Day? No matter how hard I save I never have enough to buy nice gifts for my family and toddler.

My friend Meredith is so tight that last year she bought her grandkids a pack of batteries with a note saying ‘toys not included’. Enforce a family rule that gifts are bought only for children. Buy them a small gift for the day and the main one in the Boxing Day sales – a toddler won’t know the difference.
