that's life (Australia)

Laylah Griffiths, eight, Somerset, Tasmania, nominated by Leanne Griffiths

-

My granddaughter Laylah is just eight years old and has been through some tough times, but instead of worrying about herself she just wants to help others.

‘I got far too many presents this Christmas,’ she said three years ago.

That’s when she decided to help those in her community.

It made her sad when she saw homeless people so she used her pocket money to fill boxes with food, toys and toiletries.

She asked others to help her and raised money at garage sales.

It has grown so much that we have set up a Facebook page called Laylah’s Gifts.

The boxes were distributed a week before Christmas to charities like the Salvation Army, Mission Australia, women’s shelters for domestic violence survivors, drug and alcohol affected families and Ronald McDonald House.

Last year she helped to feed almost 300 families at Christmas and gave presents to children.

This year, she has already been delivering boxes before and after school and most weekends. She’s doing huge things for little old Tassie!

She never asks for anything and says she doesn’t want much for Christmas. All she wants is to help others.
