The boy who saved Xmas

-

When five-year-old TyLon Pittman watched video clips taken from the movie How The Grinch Stole Christmas on YouTube, he was worried.

Christmas was his favourite time of year and the youngster, who wants to be a policeman when he grows up, felt strongly that the Grinch needed to be stopped so he didn’t ruin everybody’s big day.

So, unbeknown to his family, TyLon called emergency services.

‘Watch for that little Grinch!’ TyLon said to the operator. ‘Because the Grinch is gonna steal Christmas, okay?’

When Officer Lauren Develle from Mississippi’s Byram Police Department heard about TyLon’s concern she stopped by his house.

TyLon showed Officer Develle the incriminating video clips.

TyLon’s mother, unaware he’d taken the videos so seriously, apologised for the call, but Officer Develle had a plan to ensure TyLon never worried again.

The following night she convinced a friend to dress up as the Grinch and TyLon promptly placed him under arrest.

After escorting the green monster to the police station, TyLon made sure he was safely locked away.

The police then gave TyLon some gifts, including a toy police car.

But the most special present came from Officer Develle.

A copy of Dr Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas, so TyLon could read the full story.

‘I just wanted to make sure TyLon knew that the Grinch was capable of loving Christmas as well,’ Officer Develle said.
