I divorced my hubby for being a grinch!

Jacquie Pelc’s husband Stanley hadn’t always been a Scrooge.

They first met when Jacquie was running her own bakery.

They married in 1996 and, when sons Patrick and Samuel were born, Jacquie sold the bakery to be a full-time mum.

That’s when Stanley became controlling.

‘I had to ask for money to buy clothes for myself,’ Jacquie told The Daily Mail.

His stinginess even affected Christmas.

‘His view was that so much fuss for one day was a waste of money,’ Jacquie said.

She wasn’t allowed to hang lights or tinsel and, though she loved roasting a turkey and baking a Christmas cake, Stanley insisted it was too expensive.

They ended up with roast chicken and a store-bought pud.

Christmas 2012 was the final straw.

‘Stanley refused to join us for dinner because he wanted to watch TV,’ she said.

So, in January 2013, Jacquie walked out on her 17-year marriage.

That year, lining up at the department store checkout with a trolley overflowing with Christmas treats, Jacquie, 52, cried tears of happiness.

‘The best Christmas gift is the one I gave myself – the courage to leave my loveless marriage,’ she said.
