Wrong TURN
When Lauren Rosenberg wanted to travel 1.2km by foot across Park City in Utah, USA, the Californian woman googled directions.
But when Google Maps identified the most direct route as being across a four-lane highway Lauren didn’t request an alternative.
Instead, she attempted to cross the busy street – in the middle of a dark night, and in the snow.
Lauren, in her mid-20s at the time of the incident in 2010, was struck by a car and suffered multiple fractures requiring six weeks of rehab at a cost of around $100,000.
Lauren lodged a claim for the ‘severe and permanent physical, emotional and mental injuries’ she suffered, with her lawyer stating, ‘Google failed to warn Miss Rosenberg of known dangers and instead instructed her to use that dangerous path.’
A Google spokesperson pointed out that all their maps come with a disclaimer, and the map Lauren had accessed came with a very specific caution for pedestrians.
The case was dismissed.
